Diet Rules
October 30, 2007
I’ve decided to collate all the pages about Diet Rules, in the hope that, by the end of this year, I’ll have a full list of rules that can ensure anyone can lose weight, if only s/he follows these. So, here goes:
Rule #1: Eat What You Really Want, Until Comfortably Full
Rule #2: Examine All Cravings

Ever since I started writing my own blog, I keep discovering great blogs like yours. I’ve been enjoying the writing so much that I haven’t gotten to the cooking yet! (except for the sweet potato fries - one of my favorite foods)
I didn’t have any butchers in the family, but rather a mother who believed that all meals should contain meat. For a long time she wouldn’t even let us have spaghetti until I told her that my friend, whose mother she held in high esteem, had pasta every Tuesday at her house. I’m the only vegetarian (vegan) the family produced.
I have a thought about sweet cravings that comes from a million years ago when I was macrobiotic. The macros said that when you eat a lot of salt (very yang) you naturally balance it with sweets (very yin). For health reasons, I try not to eat a salty diet, but I notice that when I do, I always crave a sweet.
If I were to pick a diet rule, it would be to eat slowly and chew. Take the time to really enjoy food. When I get into a routine of rushing and eating fast, I get overly full and put on weight.
Enough about diet rules. The most important thing is dogs, of course. Our beloved 14-year-old schipperke died in September, leaving us with only our little miniature poodle (from the humane society). She’s a poodle with no sense of poodle superiority - a garbage-can loving street dog with a heart of gold. Of course, she’s not allowed to wander the streets without one of her humans in tow - but she’d prefer it. Your girls are beautiful.
